Aero Vodochody signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation with Brazilian company Embraer

Prague, June 7th, 2022: A memorandum was signed between representatives from Aero and Embraer, which strengthens the cooperation between the two entities. Aero has been producing significant parts of the C-390 aircraft since 2016. The signing was also attended by Mr. Tomáš Kopečný, Deputy minister for industrial cooperation of the Czech Ministry of Defence.

The leading edge of the wing, the doors, the cargo ramp and the second part of the rear fuselage of this aircraft are manufactured and assembled by Aero in close cooperation with Embraer. The Czech aerospace industry plays a relevant role in the commercial success of the aircraft, which has been chosen by Hungary and Portugal alongside Brazil. As the growth in sales of the C-390 expands with European customers this further collaboration would provide Embraer with a strong manufacturing and service partner in the Czech Republic.

"We developed and certified the C-390 transport aircraft parts at Aero. We are pleased that Embraer is now strengthening its cooperation with us and we will continue to be one of its major suppliers. We will continue to produce top quality aerospace components, which is good news not only for Aero but also for the entire aerospace industry in the Czech Republic," said Viktor Sotona, CEO and President of Aero, after signing the memorandum.

The C-390 Millennium and its air-to-air refueling configuration, the KC-390, are the new generation of multi-role military transport aircraft already delivering unrivaled mobility and cargo capacity, rapid re-configuration, high availability, improved comfort, and flight safety, as well as optimal management of reduced operational costs through its life cycle—all in a single platform.

Since its first delivery to the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) in 2019, the KC-390 Millennium has proven its capability, reliability and performance. The aircraft was extensively used in operations to transport equipment and medical supplies, ranging from liquid oxygen to vehicles across Brazil at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. The FAB’s current fleet of KC-390s stands at five units and all are fully operational. Together, the fleet has exceeded 5,000 flight hours in operation with a mission completion rate of 97%, demonstrating outstanding availability and productivity in its category.

The Embraer C-390 can also refuel in flight, significantly enhancing its range and utility in demanding transport operations. The aircraft can carry 26 tonnes of cargo (up to 7 standardized military pallets), making it a medium-sized transport aircraft. It is powered by two IAE V2500 jet engines.
